TNS, a leading network solutions provider, recently partnered with a Birmingham-based food company to validate a 3rd party audit and resolve a malfunctioning network. The audit revealed several critical issues that were causing the network to underperform, and TNS stepped in to provide a comprehensive solution.

Identifying the Problems

The 3rd party audit uncovered three major problems that were contributing to the network’s malfunction:

  1. Data cables tied to incoming 3-phase leads: This improper cable management practice can lead to interference and signal degradation, significantly impacting network performance.
  2. Transmission cables in poor health: The audit found kinks and split sheaths in the transmission cables, which can make them more prone to failures and disrupt network connectivity.
  3. Internal-grade cables running externally: The building’s roof was home to internal-grade cables, which are not designed to withstand outdoor conditions like UV radiation, moisture, and temperature fluctuations. This can lead to premature degradation and potential network outages.

Proposing a Solution

After carefully analyzing the problems and the client’s requirements, TNS proposed the installation of a Draka Cat6 solution throughout the main building. This comprehensive solution aimed to address the root causes of the network issues and ensure long-term reliability.

Implementing the Solution

TNS engineers got to work, implementing the Draka Cat6 solution and addressing the various aspects of the project:

  • Installation of Draka Cat6 cables throughout the main building
  • Fitting an external OM3 CST grade fiber optic cable from the comms room to remote offices
  • Installing 18 data points connected to the comms room
  • Repositioning cabinets and servers
  • Installing an additional 88 data points
  • Installing and fusion splicing a fiber optic link
  • Re-patching the network
  • Performing health checks on all hardware equipment

Restoring Network Reliability

By addressing the root causes and implementing the Draka Cat6 solution, TNS successfully restored network reliability for the Birmingham-based food company. The project showcased TNS’s ability to identify existing problems, produce a remedial action plan, and carry out all tasks in a professional manner.

Conclusion

TNS’s partnership with the Birmingham food company demonstrates the importance of regular audits and the implementation of high-quality network solutions. By addressing the issues identified in the 3rd party audit and installing a Draka Cat6 solution, TNS ensured that the food company’s network would operate efficiently and reliably for years to come.
